Naomi and I just returned from our day-long trek across the state line and back to pick up her new dog Hermione. Hermione is part poodle and part italian greyhound, and she smells like strawberries. We were a little sad that she would be separated from her pal Ginger who had really cool pointy-foldy ears but felt a lot better when the rescue folks told us that Ginger was getting a new home today too.
I don't know a lot about poodles, but I can say as a whippet owner (a near relative of the italian greyhound) that she has a lot of behaviors I associate with sighthounds, such as: burying her nose in any available crook; stretching her front legs out completely kind of like a running back's stiff-arm; licking (but not as much as my dogs, Zack, so you can still come home); examining human faces inquisitively; and raising the temperature where she's laying by at least 20 degrees. We had to change drivers not because of tired driver-eyes, but because of sweltering passenger laps. Which makes me wonder just how long before she takes on the identity sighthounds are best known for: under-cover heating bill savers.
There are a few other traits that are no doubt attributable to her poodle heritage: the soft curly fur, the need to stay awake and notice everything around her, her cool poofy tail, and the apparent need to take long looks at herself in the visor mirror.
Who cares which traits come from where? This is one sweet, adorable, happy little puppy dog.

awesome. she is sooo cute! (the dog too!) Make sure you all keep telling her about me, so she doesn't forget me while I'm doing my 2nd tour of duty overseas (well, overland).

I don't think they call that a tour of duty, Z, but "leave from teaching." One is a duty, and one is not!

good point. and one is a "tour" in the sense of "tourism" while the other is not.
