in praise of good, strong midwestern thunderstorms

They stretch across Illinois and move at a pace that combines an amble with a woosh, a steady rainy rumble with irregular flashy rippy-roars. A little like summer itself.

It hailed at your house? Not here. Just rain. And basement seeping.
As Storm #1 rolled in from the west at 3:30 am, took its own sweet time flashing and rumbling before any rain actually fell, and then worked its way over my house and eastward, I finally fell back asleep with the thought, "Oh, it's finally passing. Now it's over at Debbie's house."

Aw. I'm glad you're back. Yah, the hail came mid-morning, with storm #2.

No hail here, though it blew like All Hell last night. Lots of leaves to pick up this AM, and I hear a chipper screaming down the street right now.
