I find it difficult to blog when the weather is so nice, and prit-tee boring to write about nice weather.
How about cities, then? We were in Philadelphia for part of this weekend--totally fun. My new favorite appetizer is blackened green beans served with some delish caper dip, consumed here. Elsewhere Elsewhere, I had my first paiea: paella: whoa. Thanks to our awesome host for steering us toward the good eats, for offering his loft's human shelf for us to sleep on/in, and also for just bopping around with us.
And this coming week I'm going to Chicago for a couple of nights. It'll be just me, for a meeting at UIC and a dip in the Newberry. Given that it's the height of summer, you'll allow me to make research sound like a swimming pool, right? Thought so.

It was so great to have you guys in town! And thanks for being my first Illinois friends to make a trip here just to visit me!
But, while Amada is indeed a delicious tapas place, we actually went to this place here: http://www.barferdinand.com/home.html
Where you had paella, not paiea, though I like that spelling--it's rather Greek, actually, isn't it?
According to Wikipedia, Paiea is something else entirely: "In Polynesian mythology, Paikea (or Paiea) is the god of sea monsters and soft-shell crabs..." A god of soft-shell crabs? That may be my favorite god of them all. So, actually, Paiea is quite related to paella...

F! I had doubts about both those items, and was 60% sure I was wrong, but that has never stopped me. That's what I get for just following along and not reading anything. We WERE in Philadelphia, right? :)

I'm such a dorky pedant. Just call me Holofernes. (That little shout-out to my Renaissance peeps only confirms my diagnosis, of course).
Next time we will go to Amada, though, because it kicks butt.
