You're very right about October. I would also add that I think the early job deadlines are partly because we know we're going to get more applicants than before. We did not move our deadline up, but we expect to get a considerable number of additional applications than we did in 2006 because of the number of people who did not get jobs last year with all the canceled searches. So we're going to be getting everyone graduating this year and everyone who graduated last year who did not get a job or wants to move from a job that is less than ideal for them. We expect to get a lot of great applicants, but we're worried about handling the increased amount smoothly.

This September has been insane.

The solution is simple: stop requiring recommendations with job applications. I'm not joking. I don't think we need them.

Umm...hello? It is not actually October yet. I have at least three days in which to finish September, and I would appreciate your respecting that. Seriously.

My August was crazy. My October, so far, a cakewalk (or more accurately, breadwalk) in comparison. Administration makes fall out of summer but you get a breather...
