I don't leave for Memphis, the location of the Rhetoric Society of America conference, til late Wednesday night, but I'm already thinking about packing because I will be at the conference quite a long time--Thursday through Monday, to be exact--and away from home, thanks to two overnight train rides, for even longer; and I have fun things planned for tomorrow and Wednesday--including the first mountain bike trip of the season (hooray!), a haircut, and the undergraduate awards meeting--and will not have that much time to think about packing.
A check of weather.com, of course, tells me that Memphis is well into summer. Highs in the 90s: now that's some barbeque eating weather. So here's the packing conundrum: how to pack for the heat of Memphis summer, over-air conditioned conference meeting rooms, AND exquisitely messy eating?
